Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center is a joint computational research center with Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. Established in 1986, PSC is supported by several federal agencies, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and private industry.

PSC provides university, government and industrial researchers with access to several of the most powerful systems for high-performance computing, communications and data storage available to scientists and engineers nationwide for unclassified research. PSC advances the state of the art in high-performance computing, communications and data analytics and offers a flexible environment for solving the largest and most challenging problems in computational science.

The intern will be expected to assist the user services team with daily tasks.  They will also be required to work with their mentor to go complete the RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) CSA training program and receive a certificate.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Troubleshooting Linux environments, ssh connections, and HPC workflow issues
  • Directing users towards pre-installed software environments
  • Instructing users on best practices for deploying their own software on PSC systems
  • Install software and deploy modules
  • Escalating issues to system administrators as needed
  • Attend weekly meetings with User Services team members to discuss present issues and system changes.

This internship is open to anyone currently enrolled in a degree seeking program at Slippery Rock University, Community College of Allegheny County, Bucks County Community College or Pennsylvania Western University. This is a hybrid in-person/ remote or fully in-person position and all work must be conducted while in the United States. Our offices are located at 300 South Craig Street, Pittsburgh, PA.
