Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center is a joint computational research center with Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh. Established in 1986, PSC is supported by several federal agencies, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and private industry.

PSC provides university, government and industrial researchers with access to several of the most powerful systems for high-performance computing, communications and data storage available to scientists and engineers nationwide for unclassified research. PSC advances the state of the art in high-performance computing, communications and data analytics and offers a flexible environment for solving the largest and most challenging problems in computational science.

The center also manages and participates in the management of several biomedical data archives.   A key part of the PSC role in these data archives is to manage the collection and distribution of data and metadata according to FAIR and other community standards.

We are looking for interns to assist in the development of these projects. The  internships offer the opportunity for students to:

  • Gain valuable experience and knowledge in research computing, data storage, and data publication.
  • Network with leaders in academia and industry to form valuable relationships.
  • Applying AI and machine learning skills to research questions
  • Managing metadata collected from data submitters, designing and implementing workflows to streamline the metadata updates of data collections.
  • Applying data validation checks and pipelines, validating data conversions and visualizations.
  • Automating communication based on data status
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals and at prominent conferences.

Job Requirements     

  • Candidates must be pursuing an undergraduate or Master’s degree.Examples of relevant majors are biology, computer, information, or data science, engineering or other relevant major.   
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and creativity.

Duration :          Fall semester 2025, with potential for extension

Salary Information:     Hourly rate based on year in school

Work Period:     Up to 20 hours per week
