Big Turnout for PSC’s Discover 09 Open House
PITTSBURGH, January 29, 2009 – With a turnout of 131 people, including students and teachers from local universities, governmental organizations and others interested in computational science, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center’s Discover 09 Open House met its goal of introducing high performance computing to a wide regional audience.
“There were many contacts made and much information shared,” said Cheryl Begandy, PSC manager of outreach. PSC exhibits showed graphical results from many fields of research, including storm forecasting, earthquake soil vibration and realistic cellular modeling, and provided information on PSC’s education and outreach programs.
Guests included students and faculty from Clarion University, Duquesne University, Robert Morris University, West Virginia University, Carnegie Mellon and the University of Pittsburgh. Teachers and administrators from local school districts including North hills, Chartiers Valley and Pittsburgh learned about various K-12 progams that PSC offers.
