Salk

Salk was an SGI Altix SMP machine with 144 cores and 288 Gbytes of shared memory, dedicated to biomedical research.  Salk is named for Dr. Jonas Salk, developer of the first inactivated polio vaccine.
 

Salk was installed in 2008 and decommissioned in January, 2015.
