PSC Celebration and Symposium

Friday, February 1, 2013

Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center
300 S. Craig St., Pittsburgh, PA

Celebrate with us as we launch Sherlock, our new YarcData uRiKA system with PSC-specific enhancements, specially designed to detect relationships hidden in extremely large and complex data.

How to Join Us

Use the form at the upper right to register for the launch or the symposium.

If you can't be here in person, don't worry - you can still be a part of the celebration! We will be broadcasting both the launch celebration and the symposium on the web.

You can view them on Friday beginning at 10:45AM on YouTube or our website.

Event Details

At 11 AM, join CMU President Jared Cohon, Pitt Chancelor Mark Nordenberg and other distinguished speakers for the celebratory launch. Observe a demonstration of Sherlock's power to uncover hidden relationships in big datasets. Immediately following the launch, light refreshments will be served.

At 1 PM, a technical symposium, “Complex Analytics for Big Data", will feature speakers from Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh and YarcData. We will explore the state of the art and the open challenges in Big Data computing, explain how uRiKA’s advanced technologies address those challenges, and clue you in on applications that can benefit from this unique computational resource.

“Big Data” has the potential to address critical problems in a wide range of fields, like improving health care, strengthening cybersecurity, and protecting the environment, but until uRiKA, the complex analyses needed to exploit Big Data’s full potential have been impossible.

For more information about the symposium, see the symposium web page.

Sherlock is funded through an NSF Strategic Technologies for Cyberinfrastructure (STCI) award. PSC gratefully acknowledges its partnering organizations: the National Science Foundation, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Pittsburgh, and YarcData.
