Compass is a unique collaboration between a national computing center, hardware and software vendors, and private-sector startups, accelerators, and incubators. It unites PSC’s expertise in converged HPC, AI, and Big Data, strong connections to CMU’s renowned School of Computer Science and the University of Pittsburgh’s prowess in the life sciences, and Pittsburgh’s vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem.

AI researchers made history using PSC’s resources with Libratus, the first AI to surpass humans in its ability to make decisions involving imperfect information.

Compass membership includes access to an advanced testbed that provides early access to emerging AI technologies for training, inferencing, and edge computing. As appropriate, Compass will make available more futuristic and possibly disruptive technologies, and support projects to explore their potential.

Compass is operated by PSC, a national high-performance computing (HPC) center with over 32 years of experience in enabling users to make breakthroughs with cutting-edge computing.
