William S. Young, Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center scientific specialist. Young has developed a heterogeneous-computing version of the molecular dynamics software package CHARMM. His "hetero-CHARMM" code divides the computational tasks for simulating proteins in an aqueous environment between the CRAY T3D and the CRAY C90. This distributed code runs two to three times faster than calculations of the same problem on the C90 alone.
