Supercell Thunderstorm Simulations

Currently Dr. Xue,CAPS, is running large-scale simulations of violent weather using data generated from the Advanced Regional Prediction System (ARPS) and doppler radar data on the terascale system, Lemieux, at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center.

These animations show a numerically simulated tornado within a supercell thunderstorm. Visualized are the volume rendered cloud water fields, showing the tornado funnel clouds. The animations were created with AVS5.
