Friendly Users Welcome at PSC for Doubled XT3

PITTSBURGH, December 26, 2006 — As announced in November, PSC has upgraded its Cray XT3, known as BigBen, to 2,068 dual-core nodes, doubling its processor count to 4,136. Because the flop rate of the new processors is 2.6 Gflops, increased from 2.4, BigBen's computing capacity has more than doubled.

Between now and April 1, 2007, some informal access to the machine (not requiring a reviewed proposal), aka friendly usage, may be possible for people who do not currently have an XT3 allocation. Please contact PSC Allocations by email (grants@psc.edu) or telephone (412-268-7143 or 800-221-1641) to get started or for more information.
