Improved Message-Passing on LeMieux

PITTSBURGH, June 28, 2005 — The PSC systems and operations team working with Hewlett-Packard recently completed a major upgrade of the systems software on LeMieux, PSC's terascale system. A major enhancement is improved Elan libraries, which control inter-node communications, including MPI message-passing. Benchmarks show significant improvement for some MPI features, notably "allgather" and "broadcast." Users have reported improved performance with applications using dual rail.
