research effort aimed at bringing data transmission rates of

million from the National Institutes of Health to renew the

The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) has been awarded
$45 million from the National Science Foundation to provide
"terascale" computing capability for U.S. researchers in all
science and engineering disciplines.
Cisco Funds Network Research at PSC [2000.06.15]
The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center has received $100,000
from Cisco Systems to support a research project called
Web100, the objective of which is to facilitate network
transmission rates of 100 megabits per second.

Supercomputing Center (PSC) network room yesterday
afternoon, Undersecretary Ernest J. Moniz of the U.S.
Department of Energy (DOE) inaugurated a high-speed network
that, he says, will play a vital role in development of
technologies for clean, efficient fossil-fuel combustion.
PSC Contracts to Develop Infrastructure for
Telemedicine

The Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) and medical
researchers at the University of Pittsburgh and the UPMC
Health System have joined with three other hospitals in a
four-state region (Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New
Jersey) to develop technologies for networking and archiving
of medical-image data.
Southwest PA Connects to Advanced Internet2 Network

Universities and research centers in the Southwest
Pennsylvania region can now connect to one of the most
advanced research networks in the U.S. Through a fiber
connection implemented in December, the high-performance
network hub at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, called
a gigaPoP, is now linked to Abilene, an advanced research
network that currently links over 90 U.S. universities and
research organizations.
