Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center Will Host Specialized Machine for Biomolecular Research
With stimulus funding from NIH, the National Resource for Biomedical Supercomputing at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center will soon be accepting proposals for biomedical researchers to use a novel special-purpose supercomputer for biomolecular simulation that is being made available without cost by D. E. Shaw Research.
PITTSBURGH, PA., May 5, 2010 - The National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), has awarded a two-year, $2.7 million grant to the National Resource for Biomedical Supercomputing (NRBSC) at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) to host a specialized supercomputer for biomolecular simulation designed by D. E. Shaw Research (DESRES). The machine, called Anton, will be made available without cost by DESRES for non-commercial research use by universities and other not-for-profit institutions.

Partnership of Supercomputing Centers Announces NSF XD TIS Award
NCSA, TACC, PSC and NICS to offer first dedicated technology insertion service for the "new" TeraGrid
PITTSBURGH, PA., June 28, 2010 - A team of four U.S. advanced computing centers today announced that it has begun work on the National Science Foundation (NSF) eXtreme Digital (XD) Technology Insertion Service (TIS) award, an $8.9 million, five-year project. XD TIS is a major Office of Cyberinfrastructure (OCI) program dedicated to evaluating and recommending new technologies for HPC systems and other resources as part of the NSF TeraGrid and its follow-on initiative, XD.

Blacklight, the World's Largest Coherent Shared-Memory Computing System, is Up and Running at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center
