XSEDE HPC Workshop: Open MP

October 7, 2014

XSEDE along with the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois are pleased to announce a one day OpenMP workshop. This workshop is intended to give C and Fortran programmers a hands-on introduction to OpenMP programming. Attendees will leave with a working knowledge of how to write scalable codes using OpenMP.

Due to demand, this workshop will be telecast to several satellite sites, given below.  No additional sites will be added.  This workshop is NOT available via a webcast.

XSEDE HPC Workshop: BIG DATA

September 2, 2014

 

XSEDE along with the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center are pleased to announce a one day Big Data workshop, to be held September 2, 2014.

This workshop will focus on topics such as Hadoop and SPARQL.

-- Big Data Programming with Hadoop and Spark

This session will give an overview of programming big data applications focusing on Hadoop and Spark.

I. Hadoop System Overview
This section will cover the basics of the Hadoop Environment. We will discuss the Map Reduce daemons, the scheduling and monitoring environment, and interacting with the distributed file system (HDFS).

II. Hadoop Jobs
We will write a simple Java Map/Reduce program and run through the process of compiling, packaging, submitting, monitoring, and collecting the output of a Hadoop job. We will also briefly discuss other applications that run on the Hadoop platform such as HBase and Hadoop Streaming.

III. Spark
We will discuss the Spark platform and its concept of Resilient Distributed Datasets. We will cover the relationship between Spark and Hadoop, and we will write and submit an example job. We will also discuss the Spark Machine Learning API.

o Learn the Graph Analytic approach to Data analysis, including some real-world examples.

o Gain an introduction to the RDF data format and the SPARQL query lanquage, with hands-on practice.

o Learn how to interact with the Sherlock Urika system.

XSEDE HPC Workshop: OpenACC

August 5, 2014

XSEDE, along with the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center and the National Center for Supercomputing Applications at the University of Illinois will be presenting an OpenACC GPU programming workshop on August 5, 2014.

OpenACC is the accepted standard using compiler directives to allow quick development of GPU capable codes using standard languages and compilers. It has been used with great success to accelerate real applications within very short development periods. This workshop assumes knowledge of either C or Fortran programming. It will have a hands-on component using the Blue Waters which is deployed at NCSA.

Due to demand, this workshop will be telecast to several satellite sites. This workshop is NOT available via a webcast. Please note that the hands-on accounts will be limited to 150 students, available across all sites and awarded by order of registration.

XSEDE HPC Workshop: Summer Bootcamp

June 24-27, 2014

In response to the demand for a Hybrid Computing workshop PSC, along with XSEDE, will present a special all-in-one version of the XSEDE Workshops that will allow us to meaningfully cover hybrid computing. 

This 4 day event will include MPI, OpenMP, OpenACC and accelerators and run June 24-27.  We will conclude with a special hybrid exercise contest that will challenge the students to apply their skills over the following 3 weeks and be awarded the First Annual XSEDE Summer Boot Camp Championship Trophy - worth up to $8.

This workshop is intended to give C and Fortran programmers a hands-on introduction to MPI programming. Both days are compact, to accommodate multiple time zones, but packed with useful information and lab exercises. Attendees will leave with a working knowledge of how to write scalable codes using MPI – the standard programming tool of scalable parallel computing.
