Coursework Grants

A primary mission of the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center is to train students, including undergraduates, on the proper use of supercomputers. To this end, PSC offers Coursework grants which are grants of free supercomputing time to supplement other teaching tools.

Typically, Coursework grants have been used in heavily quantitative courses, such as numerical methods, computational fluid dynamics, and computational chemistry. But we encourage faculty members from all fields, including the social sciences and humanities, to take advantage of Coursework grants.

Applying for a Coursework grant

To apply for a Coursework grant, contact the PSC Allocations Coordinator. It is helpful to have the following information avavailable:

  • a course syllabus;
  • academic status, names and email addressess of the students enrolled in the course (this can be supplied at a later date if necessary);
  • beginning and ending dates for the course; and
  • beginning and ending dates for the Coursework grant if you require access to the grant beyond the course dates.

Review process

Coursework grants are internally reviewed by PSC staff scientists on an ongoing basis.

Feedback

Your comments on the value of this grant to your course or university are always welcome, as are suggestions for how we might improve our efforts to educate members of the academic community on the use of supercomputers. Send your comments to the PSC Allocations Coordinator.
