Scientists are increasingly asked to be meaningful participants in STEM education, training, and outreach activities. PSC continues to contribute its expertise and talent to the surrounding research community by identifying and creating resources and workshops across the different disciplines.

Research Community Outreach

PSC's education, outreach & enrichment program for the scientific research community acquaints faculty, students and research staff at colleges and universities with supercomputing and provides opportunities for them to use supercomputing in their teaching and research. This is accomplished through conducting supercomputing workshops, providing computing grants for accredited courses, and offering summer student internships.

Training and workshops

PSC offers workshops on code optimization and parallel programming, as well as on specific scientific topics. These workshops can be conducted at PSC or off-site. Workshops include both lectures and extensive hands-on sessions. Programming exercises are carefully designed to reinforce the concepts and techniques taught in class.

Instructors have both strong scientific and technical backgrounds and are available for individual consultation, including help with participant's own coding needs, during lab sessions.

Information about upcoming workshops and materials from previous workshops are available at www.psc.edu/training/.

Biomedical workshops, sponsored by the National Resource for Biomedical Supercomputing, cover many aspects of biomedical computing research. See www.nrbsc.org/education/workshops for more information.

For questions regarding our workshop program, please send e-mail to workshop@psc.edu.

Coursework computing grants

Coursework computing grants are offered free of charge to faculty members of any university or college for use in an accredited course. Typically, Coursework grants have been used in heavily quantitative courses, such as numerical methods, computational fluid dynamics, and computational chemistry, but we encourage faculty from all fields, including the social sciences and humanities, to take advantage of Coursework grants.

Information about Coursework grants can be found at www.psc.edu/grants/coursework.

Internships

PSC offers summer internships exposing high school and undergraduate students to a high performance computing environment. For more information see outreach.psc.edu/internships.php or contact Laura McGinnis at lfm@psc.edu
