This position in the Scientific Applications and User Support Group at the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) is responsible for developing and executing collaborative projects with leading scientists, aimed at the advancement of data-centric applications that depend on high performance, high capacity analysis workflows. Tasks include implementing novel ideas, concepts, methods, algorithms and codes in an optimal fashion on leading-edge storage, networking and computing resources; helping to write winning grant proposals to fund these research activities; planning and executing outreach activities to publish and promote the scientific and technological progress that is being achieved. The incumbent is expected to help set the direction of PSC support for leading-edge data-centric computing.

qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a computational science discipline or in computer science or equivalent combination of training and experience; Four or more years demonstrated success in applying leading-edge storage, networking and computing resources to the solution of research problems in science or engineering; Disciplinary scientific research background and skills, and very strong scientific programming skills. Familiarity with major contemporary algorithmic, software and hardware approaches to high-performance, high-capacity data centric computing. Knowledge of code installation and maintenance tools and procedures. Good technical writing, code documentation, and public presentation skills. ; Normally sedentary position with some mobility; e.g., able to travel to other locations, able to present a lecture and to help during a training lab session; able to stay at a terminal and use a keyboard and mouse for extended periods; Usual office setting, close contact with computer monitor for long periods of time; Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, ability to work under pressure and ability to stay calm and deal with difficult people or situations. Ability to give public presentations; Ability to interact and communicate very well with other people.

preferred qualifications:

Master's degree or Ph.D. in a computational science, computer science or equivalent combination of training and experience; Five or more years of peer-recognized expertise in data centric scientific computing, as evidenced by publications, awards, and grants. .
