Remembering David through photos

david's page

David filled his personal web page with his art, intellect and humor.

I will miss David W. Deerfield II

What to say about David!

The points that come immediately to mind don’t come close to expressing why I liked David so much.

Everybody else will remark on his sense of humor and his good fight with his cancer so I don’t need to mention that.

He was really smart and logical. (But sometimes he would be frustrating because he would start from stubbornly held wrong-headed premises!)

His eye for photography was outstanding. His nature photos are very beautiful.

His ability to make friends was amazing to me. Such a wide and diverse circle of friends he had.

His lust for Perkins chicken-fried steak was awesome. When traveling, he would plan his driving routes and times so he could stop at a Perkins.

While I have no idea whether or not he has any musical interests and talents, he always struck me as someone who played the violin as a child. What this really means to me is that I always felt that David was thinking, “To hell with what anyone else thinks. This is what I think is right and want to do and I am going to do it.”

Actually, after writing that last point, the essence of David has come to me: He cared about doing what is right and good.

That’s why I loved the man.

He will have let me down only once — he told me that he would speak at my retirement party. What to say about David!
