david's page

David filled his personal web page with his art, intellect and humor.

David and I first met when David’s postdoc advisor, Richard Hiskey, called me and asked if he could bring him down to talk to me. Richard and I collaborated for many years. David and I hit it off right away by getting into a argument on how to treat some blood coagulation data but began great friends from then on. We collaborated on many papers on blood coagulation, first with Richard and then after Richard retired, we continued to work on metal binding problems. Our friendship extended to my family where my wife and sons became close. We had many meals together at our home or restaurants all over the Research Triangle area. After Ralph Roskies hired David at PSC, we continued to enjoy a collaboration. David would visit from time to time and these were always good times. He helped me take a load of furniture from NC to Madison, Wis. where my son was postdocing. The trip was punctuated by a tornado and flood in Nashville and the wreck of a semi ahead of us someplace in Illinois. David did not care for my channel switching on the radio while he was trying to sleep or my singing accompiment to some of the country songs i liked. After a couple of Gordon Conferences we went to Iceland and to Goose Bay Labrador with other friends; some of the photography that David did in those exotic places should be published someplace — beautiful! He was of course from Kansas and I am from Oklahoma (although a large amount of property he has is also in Okla.) and this led to some serious sports talk from time to time that Hugh N. got in on. So in my life David became a valued “true” friend. He loved working at PSC, thought the world of people there, and was exceedingly loyal to the communal effort of everyone there. It was a happy day when he met Terrie and I am grateful that she was there in the tough times. My family and I will miss him.
